As a student in 51¶¯Âþ’s Bachelor of Science in NursingÌýprogram, you will gain experience throughÌýopportunities to offerÌýdirect care among diverse populations in a variety of healthcare settings, developing a strong foundation for your professional nursing career.
51¶¯Âþ’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree can be obtained throughÌýtwoÌýpathways. Students can enter with a high school diploma and complete a traditional 4-year program of study with thisÌýTraditional BSN.ÌýThe second pathway is designed for individuals who have earned a bachelor’s degree in another major. Students in this program of study complete course work in 16-months with the Accelerated BSN.
The nursing curriculum progresses from humanities, science fundamentals, and basic nursing theory and skills to the application of this knowledge in the provision of simple andÌýprogressively more complex care. You will learn to meet the needs of individuals across the lifespan, apply sound clinical reasoning and collaborate with a full healthcare team.Ìý
Whether you aspire to have a career in the ICU, as a community health nurseÌýor in another setting, the Nursing major will guide you to becomeÌýan informed healthcare advocate;Ìýa capable, compassionate nurse leader;Ìýand an expertÌýnurse clinician. TheÌýNursing Major also creates a strong foundation for students to continue into graduate-level nursing programs, such as 51¶¯Âþ's Doctor of Nursing Practice.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the (NCLEX). After passing the NCLEX, graduates can practice as a registered nurse in the state in which they took the examination or transfer their license to practice in another state.

- Opportunities to build experience: 51¶¯Âþ’s Traditional BSN program is an eight-semester program with first-year student admission. The Accelerated BSN is a 16-month program. During the first year, you will examine the history of nursing and the role nurses play in the community. Courses will focus on the needs of medically underserved and vulnerable populations, immersing you in ethics, health literacy, therapeutic communication and more. Hands-on practice in the simulation lab will allow you to apply concepts from class and improve your knowledge and skills in a supportive, safe and supervised environment.

The Department of Nursing partners with some of the best healthcare facilities in Philadelphia,Ìýincluding 51¶¯Âþ Hospital (Main, Episcopal,ÌýJeanes and Fox Chase Cancer CenterÌýcampuses), Children’s Hospital of PhiladelphiaÌýand St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.
