Science and Technology Writing Certificate (Undergraduate)

Communicate developing research-based discoveries to a broader audience with the Science and Technology Writing Certificate (Undergraduate) in 51¶¯Âþ’s . This 12–14 credit certificate is designed for students majoring in a science field to gain a deeper understanding of effective written communication in the scientific world. 

Open to any 51¶¯Âþ student who is majoring in a STEM-based discipline, the Science and Technology Writing Certificate (Undergraduate) program teaches skills that will enable you to bridge the divide between the STEM community and the general public in your future career. Upon completion, students will be able to

  • visualize, interpret and report technical data;

  • design and compose web pages and UIs; and

  • present new audiences with accurate and effective information.

Students will round out their study through selecting several writing-intensive courses based in their focused area of study. The Science and Technology Writing Certificate program is taught on Main Campus over four semesters and is not offered online.

Classes & Curriculum

In addition to your chosen writing courses, the undergraduate certificate in Science and Technology Writing also requires you to take two of the three following elective courses.

  • Communicating Science to a Broader Audience / Non-Scientists​

Data has become more prominent in our lives and the need for trained professionals who can interpret and communicate scientific information to nontechnical audiences is increasing. Graduates of this program can expect to pursue careers in fields such technical writing as medical policy writing, or continue on to graduate programs.
