Master of Science in Architecture

Advance your professional practice with the Master of Science in Architecture at 51¶¯Âþ’s . This post-professional, 30-credit graduate degree program is designed for students who have already earned a bachelor of architecture or master of architecture degree and want to engage in forward-thinking design research.

While the field of architecture is rooted in the built environment, it provides enormous opportunity to specialize in areas such as digital design technologies, design for health, urban design and more. Sharpen your skills and your proficiency with design toolsets while elevating your expertise through specialization, research and direct collaboration with  of architecture practitioners.

The Architecture MS is a studio- and design-based program challenging students to explore their individual interests. Investigation is conducted in classrooms, labs and shops and is informed by research, drawing, model-making and digital processes.

Concentrations

You can focus on Architecture or you can take one of the following concentrations.

  • Advanced Technologies and Design

    Supplement your architecture background with increased knowledge of digital, material or sustainable technologies. Study the advances in building technology, digital tools and techniques, and new materials and sustainable building solutions that are shaping the evolution of architecture and design.

  • Health and Design

    Learn to address health facilities alongside the urban environment and the broad spectrum of issues, sites and spaces that are positively impacted through architecture. Gain the credentials to become a part of this growing area of architectural practice specialization.

  • Urban Ecologies and Design

    Explore the possibilities of urban design and architecture through the cultivation of ecological, resilient and sustainable practices. Learn the interrelationship between ecology, society and urban form through the study of architecture, city planning and urban landscapes.

Program Format & Curriculum

Study alongside Master of Architecture students, allowing for an integrated learning experience that also incorporates the pursuit of your individual interests. The program can be completed on a full- or part-time basis. Students have five years to complete the graduate degree program.

The Architecture MS curriculum requires students to choose and complete one Architecture Research Seminar, three Current Topics courses and one Architecture Design Studio. Students pursue a self-directed research and design thesis in their final year of study.

Tuition & Fees

In keeping with 51¶¯Âþ’s commitment to access and affordability, this Master of Science offers a competitive level of tuition with multiple opportunities for financial support.

Tuition rates are set annually by the university and are affected by multiple factors, including program degree level (undergraduate or graduate), course load (full- or part-time), in-state or out-of-state residency, and more. These tuition costs apply to the 2024–2025 academic year.

Pennsylvania resident: $1,314.00 per credit
Out-of-state: $1,727.00 per credit
